Fort Miller Precast Installed at Snell Lock

Photos of our 70,000-lb precast concrete wall panels and 40,000-lb precast roof slabs we fabricated for Kubricky Construction Corp. (D.A. Collins Family of Companies, Wilton, NY) for the Snell Lock project on the St. Lawrence River in Massena, New York. When fully assembled, (8) wall units and (4) top slab units will make up a single new diffuser. A total of (6) diffusers will be installed in the bottom of the lock chamber, replacing the original cast-in-place diffusers that had become deteriorated over time. These diffusers have millions of gallons of water flowing through them each day and play a vital role in the locks functioning properly.

This project is a design-build project. The design engineer / engineer of record for the project team is Mueser Rutledge Consulting Engineers. Shop drawings were completed by our in-house Engineering Department at Fort Miller. Fabrication of the precast commenced inside our heated buildings at our Easton, NY facility in late December and was completed in the matter of only a few weeks.

These locks are essential to international commerce. Replacing these diffusers quickly and during the winter is a perfect example of how precast concrete can help achieve the impossible.
